Shirley R. Day

Shirley R. Day has been a loyal and committed employee of South Central L. A. Regional Center (SCLARC) for nearly three decades. She began her career with SCLARC as an assistant case manager in November 1976 in the Intake Unit. She was promoted quickly, moving through a three-tier system for case management within her first year of employment. She worked on a case manager for 10 years.



In July, 1986 Mrs. Day was assigned to the Residential Services Department where she supervised a staff of 15. She was responsible for providing leadership and training to case management staff that provided services to consumers residing in residential facilities in the community and consumers residing in Developmental Centers. Other duties included the vendorization of service providers, resource development and training vendors, case management staff, consumers and their families.

In 1989, Mrs. Day was promoted to Director of Residential Services and in 2000 when the agency was reorganized, Mrs. Day was appointed one of three associate directors. As the current Director of the Consumer & Program Services Department, Mrs. Day continues to provide leadership and oversight to the following units/divisions.

  • Early Start Services
  • Specialized Services
  • Clinical/Intake Services
  • Community Services

Mrs. Day says that she has found her journey in the field of developmental disabilities to be one of "fulfillment and rewards". "My greatest reward has been witnessing the consumers flourish despite all the bureaucracy."
